Yes, you read that title right. In today’s post, we’re going to feature an interview with the man behind The Best Walking Shoes Guide which makes over $500 per month and is built on WordPress. Since a lot of WordPress users use the platform for their money sites, we found it to be an interesting interview for you today. The Best Walking Shoes Guide is run on WordPress and uses Amazon affiliate links as its monetization method.
Q. When did you start The Best Walking Shoes Guide and how much money did it make last month?
A. I started The Best Walking Shoes Guide in August of 2012 and it made $300 in September and it is on track to make $500 in October. The site has only been around for a month and a half at this point, which is amazing considering how much it is earning already.
Q. Why did you choose WordPress as the framework for your website?
I chose WordPress, because it is a platform I’m familiar with. I can knock out a basic website in a couple hours and have it indexed in Google by the next day. I first worry about getting the bare essentials up including some basic content and then I go all out to rank the site. Once I break into the top 10, the good traffic starts to come in. If I break into the top 10 easily, that also means I can probably get it higher. This is the point where I also start to improve the content on each page and create more pages with more content to rank for additional keywords. I also will make more of an effort on the design to put some usability and trust into the design. I like this system because it helps keep costs down low until the money starts coming in.
Q. What are the pages that make the most money on the site?
I obsess over tracking and analytics. I love looking at data, especially when the data is about my earnings. It’s fun to spot to the opportunities and take out the losers. There are two pages that earn the most money and they are both my main guides on the site. One is the best women’s walking shoes guide which is a list of my handpicked best walking shoes for women that includes a lot of different styles. The second best page is my best men’s walking shoes guide that lists all of my best walking shoes for men based on comfort, style, and price. These pages really help the consumer with their buying decision before they buy and that’s why the site has been as successful as it has been.
Q. Any new niches you hope to break into in the future?
After The Best Walking Shoes Guide gets a bit more steady with its rankings, I will definitely expand my niche site portfolio with new websites in new niches, but I have not looked into my next niche site yet. I do know that I’m going to try a lead generation site next, because my research shoes that’s where most of the money is made and I think it’s a better long term investment.
That concludes our short interview with Reggie of the Best Walking Shoes Guide. We hope to feature more case studies of people making money on sites built on WordPress.
It’s really difficult to get a good workout when on the road to a conference. There’s the traveling, the stress of checking into your hotel room, the stress of finding the venue and being well rested, and so much more. With all these distractions, it has become a common problem for many men and women who want to exercise, but can’t seem to find the time while on the road.
Today, we’re going to offer you some exercise tips you can use while on the road. These will only take 30 minutes so you most likely can squeeze some time to do these before your late night shower or before your morning shower. When I’m not traveling, I train with my personal trainer in Irvine at Next Level Fitness, Scotty the Body. He is the one who gave me these tips to use while on the road so remember the following is coming from an expert.
1. Run. Yes as simple as it sounds he told me to go run around the hotel if it’s safe, but with a twist. He said to only run for 20 min, but not just light jogging, but sprinting. Sprinting is a very good method to accelerate the benefits of jogging, plus sprinting helps build leg and core and muscles while jogging mostly just trims fat. Plus sprinting takes a lot less time than jogging. You can do 5 min of stretching and then 15 minutes of sprinting and you will get tired out fast, which means you got a good workout.
2. Hotel Room Exercises. This is the easiest and one of my favorite exercises to do. It’s basically a series of 5 exercises that you do all in a row without stopping. First, do 20 pushups. Second, do 20 crunches. Third, do 20 lunges. Fourth, stretch out your arms perpendicular to the floor with your palms facing down and run in place lifting your knees high enough to hit your hands. Do this until your knees hit your hands 50 times. The last exercise is 120 seconds of planking, which involves getting in a pushup position but on your forearms instead and just holding that position.
What I typically do is do the running in the morning and then I do the hotel room exercises at night before my night time shower. This combination is the perfect exercises and workouts to do on the road. Scotty is one of the best personal trainers I have ever trained with. If you don’t have a personal trainer and living in Orange County, California, you should consider going to Next Level Fitness and signing up with Scotty or one of their other Irvine personal trainers. If you go to their website right now, in fact, you can sign up for a free week trail of personal training to try them out for free. This is actually the same deal I used to get started and now I’ve been training there for over a year. One of the benefits of a personal trainer is how much they push you to get your workouts in and be effective. Plus, they give you tips like these to use when your on the go and need to get that workout in.
I go to many conferences throughout the year and sometimes I have to bring my seven-year-old son with me. Inevitably, he gets bored. He would typically bring his game boy and play games on it while he would patiently sit in the back until it’s over. I sometimes felt bad for him, because I could tell he was so bored and didn’t want to be there. On the way home from one conference I took him to about a month ago, I asked him if he was really bored playing with his game boy. Just as I expected, he was.
On the way home from that conference, I thought a lot about different solutions to my son’s boredom. I figured I would take a look at some of the new tablets that have been coming out the past few years to see if he would be interested in one of them. So, I took to Google and started my search. I found a really great website that helped me with ways to find the best tablet for kids and it compared a dozen different tablets for kids. Each of them had their own pros and their own cons of course.
With the help of the site, I ended up just picking the iPad Mini for him. In the end, you can’t go wrong with Apple. Instead of just bringing it home one day for him, I made it an adventure for him. We went to the mall and went to the Apple Store. At this point he had no idea what we were there for. Just outside the Apple Store I stopped him and bent down on one knee so we’d be face to face. I looked at him and said, “Hey, I really love it when you come to the conferences with me, but I hate seeing you bored with your old Gameboy. So, we are here today because we’re going to get you something new and special.” His face began to light up. “I’m going to get you an iPad Mini. Would you like that?” Before I could finish my sentence, he was screaming, “Yay!”
We both had smiles on our faces as we walked through the Apple Store’s doors. We immediately looked at the table with the iPads and let him play with them. I wanted to make sure he was “making the choice” because I want him to really appreciate it and take care of it – not just a here you go type of gift. He ended up really liking the iPad Mini and picked the black one. So, we bought it and took it home. He couldn’t wait until we got home to open it so he was playing with it on the car ride home.
Over time, we downloaded some apps for him and by the time the next conference came up, he as actually excited to come with me because he knew he could play with his iPad Mini all day. I really do think it’s the best tablet for kids that has really great long term value thanks to the App Store. If you have a bored kid that you have to take to conferences or events, consider buying him an iPad Mini. He or she will have years of use out of it. You can also find them used on eBay or Craigslist at discounted prices. You won’t regret it!
